A Williamsburg native, Dr. Barley earned an undergraduate degree in Special Education from West Virginia University. His subsequent work with special needs students sparked an interest in vision problems and their impact on learning.This interest led him into the field of Optometry.
As a teacher in Raleigh, North Carolina, Dr. Barley was recognized as an “Outstanding Young Educator”, and received multiple awards from Wake County Schools, and local and state civic groups.
Dr. Barley earned his Doctorate at the University of Alabama’s School of Optometry. While at UAB, he was inducted into Beta Sigma Kappa International Honor Society and was elected and served as Class President. Upon graduation, Dr. Barley was named UAB’s recipient of the Southern Council of Optometrists Clinical Excellence Award, recognizing him as his school’s most outstanding clinician.
Dr. Barley opened Family Eyecare in 1999. He lives in Williamsburg with his wife and three children.
